Sacred Alliance hires new director

Miranda Cruz

Miranda Zapor Cruz, Ph.D., has been named the new director of The Sacred Alliance, an organization that advocates for leadership development, advocacy, and networking for ministry leaders.

The Sacred Alliance, formerly known as TheCenter for Women in Ministry, operates out of Wesley Seminary at Indiana Wesleyan University.

“I have been following The Sacred Alliance for a while and have been very interested in its work in the areas of equity, justice, and reconciliation," Cruz said.

Cruz envisions that The Sacred Alliance will become a research center for the Church. She sees the organization as a tool to equip leaders and a resource where scholars and ministry leaders can advocate for reconciliation.

“I look forward to the partnerships that will form as we engage with scholars, pastors, community leaders, and other organizations,” Cruz said. “I’m eager to see where God leads the alliance team.”

“With Dr. Cruz’s interest in issues of equity, justice, and reconciliation, we felt she could bring vibrant, comprehensive leadership to the organization,” said Colleen Derr, Ed.D., president of Wesley Seminary.

“I am excited to engage more deeply and systemically with issues about which I care a great deal, including mutuality between men and women, racial reconciliation, and stewardship of the created world,” Cruz said.

In addition to working as the director of The Sacred Alliance, Cruz is an associate professor of theology at Indiana Wesleyan University. She was previously an adjunct faculty member at Wesley Seminary, where she taught online and onsite classes to seminary students. She has a Doctor of Philosophy in Religion, Politics, and Society from Baylor University and a Master of Divinity in from Princeton Theological Seminary.
