University of Indianapolis and Indiana Wesleyan University, in collaboration with Marion Design Co., will host the inaugural SEAD [Socially Engaged Art + Design] Indiana Conference, a historical event. SEAD Indiana inaugurates a convening on socially engaged arts, design, and placemaking for Indiana colleges and universities.
The two-day conference will be held 9 a.m.-5 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 16 on the campus of University of Indianapolis (1400 E Hanna Ave, Indianapolis) and Saturday, Nov. 17 at Marion Design Co. (302 South Washington, Marion).
Attendees will participate in hands-on workshops that focus on community engagement, economic and arts development, socially engaged art, and placemaking, through which speakers and facilitators will expand attendees’ knowledge of applied practices. Presentations in Indianapolis will explore activating community through festivals, parades, games, artist spaces, sculpture, murals and parks. Attendees in Marion will explore design education, design thinking, placemaking and community art.
Join a wide variety of students, faculty, and community members for a series of presentations, workshops, and activities on community innovation where nationally known speakers will offer creative insight, practical methods, and introduce attendees to socially engaged projects utilizing design and the arts.
