Donors and students attend 2018 Scholarship Luncheon

As part of its Homecoming week festivities, Indiana Wesleyan University hosted a special Scholarship Luncheon at 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 4. The luncheon honored donors who have made student scholarships possible, and connected them with the specific student whom their donation impacted.

Over 200 donors and student recipients gathered in the banquet halls in the Barnes Student Center to enjoy a meal and fellowship. The main speaker was Mauleen Ndlovu, sophomore Computer Science major, followed by remarks by IWU President David Wright.

“It’s a blessing to receive the scholarship because it really does help me with getting my education and furthering my ministry skills,” said Chelsea Tibbs, a scholarship recipient studying Children’s Ministries. “I was grateful to be able to meet my donor so I could thank her and show her how much I appreciate her help.”

Phillis Ihrkey-Mitchell is the donor who makes Tibbs’ scholarship possible.

“It was wonderful [to meet my scholarship recipient],” said Ihrkey-Mitchell. “Especially since she is teaching children and my mother taught preschoolers for 40 years.”

IWU has over 320 actively funded scholarships and will award approximately $4.4 million to students this year because of generous donors, like those at this luncheon. To learn more about funding a scholarship at Indiana Wesleyan University, please call the Office of Development at 765-677-2466.
