“It has been 8 years since we first started looking at football as a possibility for IWU,” said Director of Athletics Mark DeMichael. “It has been such a long journey and many members of our IWU family have invested so much in making football a reality that my greatest desire is for the first game to be an incredible experience and for it to be a true reflection of all that is special about Indiana Wesleyan University.”
IWU is an associate member of the Mid-State Football Association and plays six MSFA members. Those games are not part of the conference slate. Besides the season opener against Taylor, IWU plays home games vs. MSFA members Lindenwood-Belleville (Ill.) and Saint Francis (Ill.) on Homecoming. IWU travels to MSFA members Siena Heights (Mich.), Olivet Nazarene (Ill.), and Concordia (Mich.), who finished No. 15 in the national polls in 2017.
IWU plays Lawrence Tech (Mich.) in a home-and-home series. The first contest is on Oct. 13 in Southfield, Michigan, while the second game closes out the season on Nov. 17 in Marion. Both schools are first-year programs and associate members of the MSFA.
