IWU hosts Unite for Student Success Symposium

The Indiana Wesleyan University (IWU) Graduate School Counseling Program will host the Unite for Student Success Symposium on Tuesday, June 12 in the Barnes Student Center in Marion, Indiana. The symposium will begin at 8:30 a.m. and continue through 4 p.m.

The symposium seeks to unify school counselors and administrators around current concerns of today’s youth, including school safety, mental health issues, suicide prevention, human trafficking and the opioid crisis. In working together, principals and counselors can better serve youth and education. Nationally renowned professionals and students will be presenting on these critical topics. All school administrators, school counselors, educators and students are welcome to attend.

The symposium will include the topics listed above in workshops and poster presentations. Major sessions will highlight the following:

  • The Counselor-Administrator Relationship and How We Support Our Students, Teachers and Families
  • Counselor and Principal Collaboration: What the Research Says
  • Counselor and Principal Collaboration: Common Expectations and the ASCA Model

“Schools across the country are in need of help to return to a safe and secure place of learning,” said Dr. Judith Justice, director of Graduate School Counseling. “School counselors are integral in helping students with social/emotional issues, academic concerns, and college and career readiness. Administrators and counselors can be more successful in assisting youth by working together. We're excited that our School Counselors and Administrators Unite for Student Success Symposium can do just that... unite these professionals whereby counselors can use their skill sets most effectively.”

The symposium is funded by the Lilly Comprehensive Counseling Endowment Initiative Implementation Grant. Registration remains open until May 25. To register, visit indwes.edu/events/unite-for-student-success-symposium/.
