Indiana Wesleyan University Chorale will embark on a 10-day trip to Italy on Thursday, May 11 and return on Sunday, May 20. Over the course of their trip, the Chorale will perform in places such as Venice, Florence, Cinque Terre and Rome.
The group of 49 students will be led by Dr. Todd Guy, Chorale director, and Dr. Michael Buck, professor of English at IWU. Performances will take place at the following venues:
- St. Mark’s Basilica, Venice
- San Filippo Neri, Florence
- TBD (Impromptu Performance), Cinque Terre
- St. Peter’s Basilica, Rome
- Pantheon, Rome
In addition to their performances, Chorale members will also have recreational time where they can experience Italy. They will have the opportunity to take a vaporetto down the canals of Venice; explore historical churches; visit the Accademia Gallery, where Michaelangelo’s David resides; tour the Vatican City, including stops at the Colosseum, Pantheon and Sistine Chapel; and more.
“I’m excited for the students to experience another culture, but also for them to sing in some of the most famous venues in the world,” said Guy. “My hope is that they walk away from this trip with intercultural experience, spiritual growth and musical growth.”
Chorale has been on eight overseas trips. This will be their second trip to Italy.
Before their departure, the Chorale will give a send-off concert at 7:30 p.m. on May 10 in the Jackson Library rotunda. The 45-minute concert will feature the pieces that the group will perform while in Italy. It is free of charge and open to the public.
