A group of Art+Design students from Indiana Wesleyan University have partnered with individuals and organizations from across our Marion community to create installations in storefronts throughout Marion’s downtown square.
On Wednesday, April 25 from 3-5 p.m., the public is welcome to visit Marion Design Co. (302 South Washington Street) to pick up a walking-map of the seven installations, which are all viewable from the sidewalk.
The installations celebrate aspects of Marion’s history and cast vision for the future, and they will be on view for various durations, depending on future building renovations. The displays are made possible by generous donations from members of the Marion community, including Halstead Architects, The Marion Housing Authority, The Economic Growth Council, Marion Design Co. Advanced Cabinets, Webb’s Hallmark, The Refinery and Relevant Rentals.
“This downtown project has been so exciting, challenging and thought provoking,” said Henrik Soderstrom, associate professor of Art+Design. “Our hope for our students is that they will come away with a greater depth of understanding regarding ways that the creative process maps the spaces between what we call research, art, design, listening and community involvement.”
