World-renowned piano duo to perform at IWU

The Division of Music at Indiana Wesleyan University will welcome Duo Petrof, an internationally renowned piano duo, on Friday, Feb. 16 for a special performance in Baker Recital Hall on the IWU Marion campus. The performance is free of charge and will take place at 7:30 p.m.

Described by critics as glowing, flashing and brilliant, Duo Petrof is integrated by Mexican pianists of Russian descent Anatoly Zatin and Vlada Vassilieva, and their performances are acclaimed in America, Europe and Asia. The contagious dynamism that characterizes this duo has set new standards in four-hand performance, surprising audiences by their originality, creativity and success.

The duo has performed in several high-profile settings around the world, including Carnegie Hall, Merkin Hall and Bohemian Hall in New York; Royce Hall in Los Angeles; the First International Art Festival in Kyrgyzstan; Semper Music Festival in Italy; Kulturforum in Berlin; Rudolfinum in Prague; Musical Spring and Silver Lyre festivals in Russia; Sofia Music Weeks in Bulgaria; the Fine Arts Palace and National Auditory in Mexico City, among many others.

Founded in 2003, Duo Petrof is an ensemble in residence at the University of Colima in Mexico. Zatin and Vassilieva are members of the Petrof Art Family, the International Academy of Performing Arts and Sciences, and the International Piano Duo Association in Japan. They are proud ambassadors of Petrof Pianos worldwide.

“Duo Petrof is incredibly talented and has had the amazing opportunity to showcase their performances around the world,” said Dr. Phoenix Park-Kim, professor of piano. “We are very excited to be welcoming them to our stage and community here at Indiana Wesleyan University.”

Duo Petrof is also offering a master class at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Feb. 15. Both the class and performance are open to the public.
