The Indiana Music Educators Association (IMEA) has invited the Indiana Wesleyan University Orchestra to perform at its annual Professional Development Conference this weekend in Fort Wayne, Indiana. The IWU Orchestra will perform at noon on Saturday, Jan. 13 at the Grand Wayne Convention Center.
The IMEA Professional Development Conference is the largest, most diverse professional development event for Indiana music educators. Welcoming music teachers of all levels and classrooms, the two-day conference contains over 100 sessions and meetings with close to 100 clinicians.
The IWU Orchestra has prepared a performance that will feature Adjunct Professor of Flute Donna Wilson on the flute and Associate Professor of Music Dr. Jason Thompson as the conductor. Featured arrangements include the following:
- “Flute Concerto No. 1 in G Major”, W.A. Mozart
- “Overture to Die Fledermaus”, J. Strauss Jr.
- “Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them”, James Newton Howard
To prepare for its IMEA performance, the IWU Orchestra will be presenting the same concert as a preview for the IWU community at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 11 in the Barnes Student Center Piazza. The event is free of charge. Limited seating will be available.
“I am honored and excited for the orchestra to be performing at IMEA this coming weekend,” said Thompson. “It is a thrill to work with Professor Donna Wilson on the Mozart flute concert. We are excited to make beautiful music and be able to share it with the community.”
