IWU celebrates December commencement

Indiana Wesleyan University will graduate 1,503 people on Saturday, Dec. 17 during two ceremonies in the Chapel Auditorium on the Marion Campus. Non-residential associate and undergraduate degrees will be conferred at the 10 a.m. ceremony. Residential undergraduate degrees, all graduate degrees and non-residential Bachelor of Nursing degrees will be conferred at the 2 p.m. ceremony.

Chuck Lofton, a veteran broadcaster in Indianapolis, will deliver the commencement address at both ceremonies on the theme of "A Positive Outlook in Trying Times." Lofton has been a mainstay on WTHR Channel 13’s Eyewitness News Sunrise since it’s debut in 1985, where he has kept his viewers informed with up-to-the-minute SkyTrak weather reports. In addition to weather, Lofton has also covered major events like the International Space Station at Kennedy Space Center, The Indianapolis 500, Brickyard 400, Colts rallies and Pacers playoff celebrations. In 2007, he was awarded National Broadcaster of the Year by the National Weather Association, the greatest honor of his professional career. A frequent speaker to churches, schools and civic organizations, Lofton has also been named Prodigy of Indianapolis for community service.

Among this December’s graduates will be the first students from the following degree programs:

  • Associate of Science, Paralegal
  • Bachelor of Science, Psychology of Human Relations
  • Bachelor of Social Work

There will also be two posthumous degrees awarded at the 10 a.m. ceremony. Tickets will not be required for either ceremony.
