Indiana Wesleyan University students have organized a memorial 5K run/walk in honor of their late professor, Dr. Amy Forshey, 47, who lost her two-year battle to cancer this summer. The For Forshey 5K will be held at 8 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 15 at Eastbrook High School’s cross-country course in Marion, Indiana.
The special education professor taught at IWU for 11 years where she made a big impact on her students and community. Prior to teaching at IWU, she was employed for 10 years with Eastbrook Community Schools in Grant County. Forshey was known for her servant’s heart, encouraging words and unwavering faith.
“While reminiscing on the qualities we adored about our professor we often brought up how she was an extraordinary example of what it truly means to ‘walk by faith’ (2 Corinthians 5:7),” said Kayla Larsen, senior elementary education major. “From this verse, our vision of a 5K run was created to honor her and her family.”
The verse says, “For we walk by faith, not by sight.”
“Dr. Forshey was a person who would selflessly sacrifice her time, energy and resources to help anyone she could,” said Elizabeth Peterson, senior exceptional needs and special education major. “She was instantly able to identify the worth… in every person she met. She was a person who courageously lived as a beloved daughter of the Lord. She has forever changed our lives, and in turn, our future students will benefit from the wonderful person that she was.”
Registration for the 5K is $20 before Oct. 3 or $25 after Oct. 3. All proceeds will go directly to the Forshey family. To register, visit www.tiny.cc/forforshey.
