Indiana Wesleyan University welcomes Shawn Yang as the new director of International Student Programs. Yang stepped into the position on July 1 with the primary responsibility of providing administrative leadership for access programs that support and enhance the experience of international students on the residential campus.
Yang will be focusing his immediate attention particularly on providing leadership for IWU’s Bridge Program, a high school to college transition program for international students whose first language is not English. The program will help first year students transition to college life culturally, linguistically and socially. Yang will work with other access programs and strategies for international students as well.
Most recently serving as an English as a Second Language (ESL) instructor at INTO-Marshall University, Yang has 10 years of teaching and administrative experience with students from diverse backgrounds both in the U.S. and overseas. He received a master’s degree in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) from Biola University and a Bachelor of Arts degree in English from Hubei University of Technology in Wuhan, China.
“IWU seeks to be a truly great Christian university serving the world,” said Dr. Jim Vermilya, Executive Director of Global Engagement. “Shawn Yang is a gifted and godly leader with the educational background and life experiences that will help to enable us to expand our educational offerings on the residential campus to international students from around the world.”
