IWU to host inaugural summer music camp

The Indiana Wesleyan University Division of Music will be offering its inaugural Summer Music Camp for high school students on June 12 – June 17. The camp, hosted at IWU’s residential campus in Marion, Indiana, will allow singers and instrumentalists alike to further explore the world of music through a week of fun, engaging and challenging music activities.

Activities for the week include everything from rehearsals to master-classes and classroom intensives. Depending on his or her area of interest, each student will be a part of either the large chorus or sizeable orchestra, and have the opportunity to participate in a chamber ensemble as well. The week will culminate in an open-to-the-public concert in which campers will present a variety of musical styles. The concert will conclude with a major work performed by all campers and counselors.

“We are excited for campers to be involved in an intense week of music making that gives them a taste of life at Indiana Wesleyan University,” said Davy Chinn, community arts coordinator and Summer Music Camp director. “I hope that students can connect with one another, the faculty and the counselors of the camp so that they grow as musicians and as young adults.”

The Summer Music Camp is open to all students who will be enrolled in high school during the 2016-2017 school year. Registration for the camp costs $350, plus a $25 registration fee. Students may also choose to partake in private lessons with IWU faculty for an additional fee. Campers will spend the entire week on the IWU campus, and all meals and lodging will be provided.

Early bird registration closes June 1. Students can still register after June 1, but will incur a $25 late fee. For more information, click here.
