Indiana Wesleyan University is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Martin S. Rice as Dean of the School of Health Sciences. He replaces Dr. Scott McPhee, who was Dean since the inception of the School of Health Sciences in July 2013.
Rice received his Doctor of Philosophy in 1996 in Motor Learning and Control, and his Bachelor of Science Degree in 1984 in Rehabilitation Education from The Pennsylvania State University. He received his Master’s of Science degree in 1987 in Occupational Therapy from the Western Michigan University. He is currently Professor and Program Director of the Occupational Therapy Program, Department of Rehabilitation Sciences at the University of Toledo. Prior to his 18 years on staff at the University of Toledo, he was a member of the faculty of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
Dr. Rice has worked as a clinician, manager and educator for more than 25 years. His clinical experience includes adult rehabilitation in a variety of settings including rehabilitation hospitals, long-term care, and out-patient rehabilitation facilities. Although he has worked with a wide variety of patient populations, he has spent the majority of his clinical experience with persons with stroke, head injury, and dementia.

Rice has co-authored a text on clinical research in occupational therapy, has authored or co-authored over 45 peer-reviewed articles, and has given over 100 research presentations at state, regional, national, and international venues. He will assume the position of IWU’s Dean of the School of Health Sciences on January 1, 2016.
