Wesley Seminary at Indiana Wesleyan University (IWU) is pleased to host an informative and inspiring evening featuring an intimate conversation with two of today’s leading Christian experts in their respective fields.
“A Dialogue” takes place Monday, September 28 at 7PM in The Globe Theatre in Barnes Student Center of Indiana Wesleyan University. The Dialogue will take place between Dr. Matthew Sleeth, environmentalist, and Dr. Ron Blue, economist. While by-the-numbers business entrepreneurs and passionate environmentalists are often viewed as being at odds, this dialogue will show the depth and breadth that the benefits of such a partnership would yield.
“Environmental and economic issues are in the news on a daily basis – often presented in opposition to one another,” says Dr. Wayne Schmidt, Vice President, Wesley Seminary. “This Dialogue between Ron Blue and Matthew Sleeth provides a context for a civil and thoroughly Christian discussion of these critical issues. For ministry leaders, environmental stewardship and economic sustainability are on the minds of those they serve, especially those from emerging generations of spiritual leaders. This Dialogue will equip leaders for beneficial conversation and action.”
A former emergency room physician, Dr. Matthew Sleeth felt like he was straightening deck chairs on the Titanic saving a patient at a time while the whole ship (Earth) was going down. Together with his wife and two children, he began to bring his lifestyle in line with his values, cutting back on their fossil fuel by two thirds and electricity use by nine tenths. Following a new calling, Sleeth resigned from his position as chief of the medical staff and director of the ER to teach, preach, and write about faith and the environment throughout the country.
Sleeth is a graduate of George Washington University School of Medicine and has two post-doctoral fellowships. He is the author of Serve God, Save the Planet: A Christian Call to Action, the introduction to the Green Bible (2008, HarperOne), and 24/6: A Prescription for a Healthier, Happier Life. He is co-founder and Executive Director of Blessed Earth, an educational non-profit organization that inspires and equips people of faith to become better stewards of the earth.
After a highly successful career, Dr. Ron Blue retired from the financial planning firm he founded in 1979 to lead Kingdom Advisors, an international effort to equip and motivate Christian financial professionals to serve the body of Christ by implementing biblical wisdom in their lives and practices. A graduate of Indiana University with a Masters of Business Administration, he is the author of 18 books on personal finance from a Biblical perspective, including the bestselling Master Your Money.
Blue co-founded the National Christian Foundation in 1982 and serves on several boards. In January 2012, IWU established The Ron Blue Institute which is dedicated to multiplying the over 40 years of professional experience and intellectual property of Blue through curriculum development and other products in multiple outlets worldwide. The goal of the Institute is that every Christian man, woman and child in North America will understand Biblical financial principles resulting in them seeking to live simply, work diligently and give generously for the spread of the Gospel to all nations, peoples and tongues.
The Dialogue is free and open to the public.
