Indiana Wesleyan University is listed 11th among Great Schools at Great Prices within Regional Universities in the Midwest in the 2013 edition of "America's Best College" which is published by U.S. News and World Report.
The formula used to determine which universities offer the best value relates a school's academic quality to its overall cost. Only schools ranked in or near the top half of their categories are included, stated U.S. News and World Report, because it considers the most significant values to among colleges and universities that are above the average academically.
"The Great Schools at Great Prices ranking symbolizes our institutional commitment to making a high-quality education affordable," said Dr. Henry Smith, president. "We continue to find ways to enhance our educational experience through students being able to conduct research in multiple disciplines, present papers at national and international conferences, and manage campus businesses, while also working just as diligently throughout the University to keep tuition costs down."
IWU is ranked by U.S. News and World Report in the top 20 percent among the 146 Regional Universities in the Midwest. It was ranked 27th. IWU was also included in the "A-Plus Schools for B Students" list. To make this list, universities had to admit a meaningful proportion of applicants whose test scores and class standing put them in non-"A" territory. IWU was one of 37 regional universities in the Midwest on the list.
Regional universities, according to U.S. News and World Report, offer a broad scope of undergraduate degrees and some master's degree programs but few, if any, doctoral programs. IWU offers master's degrees in business administration, management, counseling, education, ministry and nursing. IWU also has a doctoral program in organizational leadership. Approval is pending from the Higher Learning Commission on a doctor in nursing practice degree.
