The Indiana Wesleyan University Board of Trustees approved two graduate degrees today - Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) and Master of Public Affairs (MPA).
The Doctor of Nursing Practice, housed in the School of Nursing, emphasizes the development of a student's capacity to impact the clinical setting as a leader and to use clinical research to improve and transform health care. Students will be prepared to lead healthcare delivery teams serving diverse populations, synthesize leadership principles regarding ethical and legal issues within health caresystems, and develop innovative practice approaches and influence healthcare policy from an interprofessional perspective. Final program approval is pending Higher Learning Commission decision.
The Master of Public Affairs, housed in the School of Liberal Arts, prepares students to assume leadership and management roles in local, state and federal levels of government, and similar roles in community-based, non-profit organizations. The curriculum emphasizes skills needed for ethical and efficient public management-including planning, policy analysis and decision-making-that best represents and promotes the public interest. No other Council for Christian Colleges and Universities school offers this degree. Recruitment for the MPA will begin immediately.
