The 2012 Indiana Day of Percussion will take place from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Saturday, April 14, at the Phillippe Performing Arts Center at Indiana Wesleyan University.
The free event will feature a drum set clinic by Tommy Igoe, drummer for he Lion King Broadway production; a timpani clinic by Jack Brennan, Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra, and performances by 14 professional, collegiate, high school and professional percussion ensembles.
Performing at this event will be groups from IWU, Indiana University, Ball State University, DePauw University, University of Indianapolis, Vincennes University, Wabash College, Butler University and Center Grove High School. Two other groups, Fourth Wall and Matt Coley and Sonic Inertia, also will perform.
Igoe began drumming when he was 2 and toured with the Glenn Miller Band when he was 18. He has performed with Blood, Sweat and Tears and with Art Garfunkel and helped to create the drumset book for The Lion King on Broadway. He is currently the director of the Birdland Big Band, which performs weekly to sell-out audiences at New york City's Birdland Jazz Club.
Brennan has served as principal timpanist of the Indianapolis Symphony Orchestra since 1988 and is active as a teacher/performer with the Orchestra's School Partnership program.
