IWU SUMMER SONGWRITING AND MUSIC CAMP

An integrative and collaborative week-long music intensive held on the Marion, Indiana campus of Indiana Wesleyan University.

The Indiana Wesleyan University Division of Music is excited to announce its fourth-annual Summer Music Camp! This year’s camp will focus on music fundamentals including music theory, musical terminology, listening, and developing the holistic musician.

During the week, campers can expect to learn the basics of music theory and aural skills. It is our hope that by the end of the week all of the campers will be able to test out of our “Intro to Music Theory” course that is a part of the music curriculum for college students. In addition to a focus on music theory, we will cover many of the essential elements that are necessary to being a fully developed and well-rounded musician. Campers will be exposed to basics of conducting, go through a music history overview, and spend time listening to some of the greatest musical works and learning how to intelligently discuss music. Division of music faculty and upper divisional students will teach all of the music courses.

On top of the classroom learning, students will have the opportunity to hear performances by division of music faculty, and make music in rehearsal settings together.

Campers are encouraged to sign up for private lessons during their time at the camp. Private lessons will be taught by many of our IWU music faculty. Lessons are available for most major instruments. (Private study is an additional cost.) Please contact the Music Camp director, Master Davy Chinn at davy.chinn@indwes.edu, for more details.

This camp is a residential camp, meaning that students will stay in residence halls on campus, eat meals in Baldwin Dining Hall, and remain on campus for the duration of the week. Meals, lodging, and all major activities are included in the overall cost of the camp.
