Master of Arts with a major in Student Development Administration
About the Program: Master of Arts with a major in Student Development Administration
There are many challenges facing college students in today’s world. The MA in Student Development Administration is designed to prepare students to serve in college administrative positions. The online format is ideal for those who are currently working in a college or university setting.
College and university students need guidance from prepared professionals who can help guide students through the various challenges and potential pitfalls which inhibit growth and success. Students benefit from staff and administrators who can provide individual support utilizing counseling skills and techniques to help them achieve their educational goals, strengthen their problem-solving skills, develop healthy relationships and reach their full potential for life-long growth.
The 36 credit hour Master of Arts with a major in Student Development Administration prepares graduates to utilize a student-centered approach by applying counseling skills and techniques in the field of Student Affairs (e.g. Student Services, Student Life, Student Development). Students in the Student Development Administration program can take advantage of Indiana Wesleyan University’s innovative traditional Student Development programs, like the Center for Life Calling, unique first-year program initiatives, dynamic Residence Life, activity and mentoring, life coaching, Global Studies, and career development programs as well as IWU’s Adult Student Advising, Retention, and Recruiting Offices.
This degree can be completed online or blended (at the Marion or Indianapolis-North campuses). The curriculum includes two professional internships which can be completed at a site near the student. Graduates are qualified to serve in higher education in such areas: Residence Life, Student Activities, Career Counseling, Multicultural Affairs, Admissions/Enrollment Management, Academic Advising, Financial Aid, Life Coaching, Retention/Student Success, Global Initiatives, & Mentoring.
“Completing this program was the best thing I could have ever done! The counseling base gives students the tools to speak with students and staff in any situation. Dr. Rob Thompson and his courses prepare students to successfully work in any area of higher education. Understanding how various institutions operate, how laws and legislature impact them, and the best principles to connect with students are all learned throughout this program. I truly would not be the successful administrator that I am today without this degree.”Stephanie Haglund
