Choosing the Right Research Database

You started your research with OCLS QUICKsearch, aka “OCLS Google,” but you feel there must be more articles about your topic. QUICKsearch searches most of the OCLS databases, but it does not search all of them.

You may be asking:

Isn’t it easier to use Google? A Google search may be more comfortable, but it is not easy to find scholarly peer-reviewed articles for your assignment requirements. OCLS is the best place to find these articles, and you won’t have to pay to access them.

I am just starting my research. Where do I start? If you are just starting your research, you will want to read the blog article, I need articles for an assignment. What do I do?

What if I need a database for a different subject? If your subject area isn’t listed below, visit the OCLS homepage and select "More…" under the Article Databases column for a complete list of the available databases.

How do I know what a database covers? Beside each database, you will see an information circle icon. Hover over the icon to see a description of the database.

We know that the number of databases you can use is overwhelming, and it can be challenging to know where to start. We picked two databases from each of our popular subject areas that you should try.
