The Master of Education program with a major in Reading is designed to prepare Ohio educators to apply for the K-12 Reading Endorsement through the Ohio Department of Education. Educators outside of the state of Ohio seeking an advanced degree in Reading Education are also eligible to apply, but the extent to which the required program of study satisfies the individual candidate’s needs is based entirely on the requirements in the state for which the candidate is seeking to add reading as a content area to their existing teaching license.
The program is aligned to the national program standards published by the International Reading Association and the standards for the Ohio Reading Endorsement program. Candidates to this program will receive advanced training in Scientifically-Based Reading Research, with an emphasis placed on reading intervention, including assisting students with dyslexia through a multisensory approach.
NOTE: This program does require 100 hours of embedded clinical experience split equally between elementary and secondary classroom settings.
