Overview of the Online Associate of Science in Nursing to Master of Science in Nursing in Primary Care Nursing - Family Nurse Practitioner Program

Are you ready to advance your nursing career? If you’ve completed your Associate of Science in Nursing, you can enroll directly in our Master of Science in Nursing with a Family Nurse Practitioner specialization. This degree is designed to equip nurses to provide culturally competent care to a diverse set of patients.
By enrolling in this program, students will save money, reduce their time to degree completion and achieve more autonomy in their practice. Coursework begins with BSN-level classes on nursing and the foundations of the practice, then progresses to topics surrounding leadership and transcultural care. When you pursue your MSN at IWU, you get:
- Primarily online classes, with clinicals in your own community

The ASN to MSN FNP track is mostly online. You will have one course with four on-site workshops that you will be required to attend (PYC660). All other courses are online. You will also be required to complete your clinical rotations in the following states: IN, MI, IL, KY, OH, and TN.

Applicable fees for resources and services will be assessed throughout the program. Tuition and fees for prerequisites and required elective courses are in addition to the charges shown on the program cost sheet. Your tuition rate will remain the same as long as you remain continuously enrolled in the same program. REQUIREMENTS

- Admission to all Masters Nursing majors begins with submission of required application forms, letters of recommendation, and official transcripts of previous college and university studies. Acceptance into any Masters Nursing program will remain valid for a period of 18 months.
To assist in the decision-making process, the Division of Masters Nursing reserves the right to require the applicant to:
- Interview; and/or
- Take the GRE.
CRITERIA FOR REGULAR ADMISSION
- An associate degree from a college or university accredited by an accrediting agency recognized by both the U.S. Department of Education (ED) and the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) verified on original transcripts sent by the institution directly to Indiana Wesleyan University. The awarding school of nursing must have national nursing programmatic accreditation (CCNE, ACEN, CNEA).
- A grade-point average of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale from the Associate Degree-granting college or university.
CRITERIA FOR CONDITIONAL ADMISSION
Applicants who do not meet the GPA listed in the criteria for regular admission and have at least a 2.75 cumulative undergraduate GPA from all previous studies may be conditionally admitted and allowed to take 9-credit hours of bachelors nursing courses to establish a GPA of 3.0 or higher.
- Students who have earned a 3.0 GPA by the completion of 9-credit hours in bachelors nursing courses, will meet the criteria for regular admission.
- An unsatisfactory grade (C- or lower in any NUR course) while conditionally admitted will result in administrative withdrawal from the program and denial of regular admission.
- Students who do not earn a 3.0 GPA by the completion of 9-credit hours in bachelors nursing courses will be denied regular admission.
- Proof that all nursing licenses - whether current or inactive - are unencumbered. Potential students with encumbered nursing licenses will not be considered eligible for enrollment at Indiana Wesleyan University.
- All applicants must provide three letters of professional reference. References should be from faculty members, professional colleagues, work supervisors, or a pastor who can evaluate the applicant's potential for success in a graduate program. Recommendations from family members are NOT appropriate. These letters should be solicited from professionals who can address the applicant's qualifications for the MSN programs.
- Original transcript from the degree-granting institution.
- A criminal history background check (at the student's expense) must be completed before registration for any track of the Masters Nursing program. Letters of acceptance from the Division of Masters Nursing will include instructions for completing the background check. The criminal background check must be completed no earlier than two weeks before the beginning of the first course.
- Completion of all undergraduate and MSN requirements for the specific program major.
- Met the minimum grade requirement for each course.
- Cumulative GPA of 3.00 or higher.
- PYC students must complete a minimum of 700 hours of supervised practicum with no less than 645 patient encounters. Out of the total 645 encounters students must complete a minimum of 300 adult patient encounters, (40 of these related to women's health), and 150 Pediatric encounters.
- Payment of all tuition and fees is required to receive a diploma.
Practice is an essential component of the graduate nursing program. Practicum courses offer students the opportunity to develop and integrate the knowledge and skills necessary for evidence-based advanced practice. If required by the facility, cost for placement is the responsibility of the student.
- Students in the Primary Care Nursing program must complete a minimum of 700 hours of supervised practicum at an onsite facility the student obtains permissions to work within.
- All RN licenses must remain unencumbered throughout the program.
- Students must fulfill all requirements as stipulated by practicum sites.
