Dr. Sameer Yadav
JWHC Postdoctoral Teaching Fellow
Sameer Yadav graduated with his B.A. in philosophy from Boise State University in 1998, and after taking an M.Div. from Master's Seminary in Southern California in 2002, he taught for two years as an assistant professor at Eternity Bible College in Simi Valley, CA. He then went on to receive an S.T.M. from Yale Divinity School in 2007, working on modern theology and social ethics under the direction of Miroslav Volf. In 2014 he graduated from Duke Divinity School's Th.D. program in theology and ethics, with a primary concentration in systematic and philosophical theology and secondary concentrations in Old Testament/Hebrew Bible and moral theology.
Sameer's dissertation The Problem of Perception and the Perception of God is forthcoming with Fortress Press' Emerging Scholars series. It addresses longstanding philosophical difficulties about how Christian beliefs and practices can be directly informed and justified by God's appearances to us in ordinary experience. He has also published in Faith and Philosophy, the Journal of Analytic Theology, and Pro Ecclesia. Current projects include a book on Gregory of Nyssa for the Cascade Companions series, and a project tentatively entitled Theological Failure, which articulates and defends his own conception of apophatic or "negative" theology. He has been selected to present his work in various forums, including Notre Dame's Center Philosophy of Religion and the American Academy of Religion. In 2009-2010 he was awarded a North American Doctoral Fellowship by the Fund for Theological Education, given to underrepresented minority scholars judged to hold particular promise as leaders in both church and academy.
Sameer and his wife, Whitney, have a five year old son, Noah and a one year old, Ezra. In addition to time spent arguing with Noah over the existence of God, Sameer enjoys indulging his amateur reading interests in literature and science.
