Dr. William Romanowski to Speak at President's Author Series
Dr. William Romanowski, the guest for IWU's spring semester President's Author Series, will discuss his most recent book, Reforming Hollywood: How American Protestants Fought for Freedom at the Movies, in an interview moderated by John Wilson, editor of Books & Culture. All are welcome to attend the conversation, which will commence at 7:00 pm.
Dr. Romanowski, a nationally recognized scholar and commentator on the intersection of religion and popular culture, earned his Ph.D. in American Culture Studies from Bowling Green State University. He is currently a professor of Communication Arts and Sciences at Calvin College in Grand Rapids, Michigan. There he also teaches courses in film and media studies.
A member of the editorial board of Popular Music and Society, Dr. Romanowski is also the author of various publications exploring the relationship of American Christianity, popular art, and culture.
Of these publications, he has won the ECPA Gold Medallion Award and also an Aegis Award and a Communicator Award of Distinction.
Dr. Romanowski's book, Reforming Hollywood: How American Protestants Fought for Freedom at the Movies, is a recipient for the National Endowment for the Humanities Fellowship and Faculty Research Award. Drawing on interviews and other sources, Dr. Romanowski shows how the evangelical movement of the 1970s altered the landscape of American film.
