I was born and raised in beautiful Rochester, NY, just a stone’s throw from the shores of Lake Ontario. I will always call Rochester ‘home.’ After graduating from Roberts Wesleyan College (also located in Rochester; RWC is affiliated with the Free Methodist Church), I moved to Oklahoma City. I worked in Adult and Pediatric Medical-Surgical settings until I transitioned to Home Care/Hospice, which I absolutely loved! After hearing frequently from co-workers, patients, and families that I was good at teaching, I pursued a Master’s in Education degree and have been passionate about teaching in the classroom and at the bedside ever since. I have taught in several educational settings prior to joining IWU in fall 2007, including at vocational, diploma, ADN, & LPN levels. I earned my MSN at IWU and have served as the coordinator for IWU’s TTN program for 5 years, before being named Division Chair of Transition to Nursing in August of 2015.

Passionate about child/adult/gerontology nursing. Desire to launch a research study addressing the need for public education about Advance Directives and ‘Allow Natural Death’ status. Currently working with colleagues in a research study evaluating cultural and clinical competence of students participating in study abroad programs compared to those studying on campus
