Dr. Leslie Jackson joined Indiana Wesleyan University’s Occupational Therapy Doctoral program as a full-time faculty member after earning her post-professional doctorate from Creighton University. During her post-professional program, she specialized in course development, curricular planning, and other academic processes. After attending Purdue University, she also earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Occupational Therapy from Creighton University. As an occupational therapist, Leslie has clinical experience treating clients with orthopedic and neurological conditions across various settings, including acute care, inpatient rehabilitation, outpatient, home health, skilled nursing facilities, and school-based practice. Dr. Jackson continues to practice at a local outpatient clinic, where she specializes in wheelchair evaluations for complex rehabilitation technology, fabricating orthoses, and treating upper extremity conditions. Her line of scholarly research includes driver rehabilitation, low vision, and assistive technology, including audible prescription readers. Her professional interests also include wheelchair service provision, health systems policy, orthotic fabrication, and assistive technology. 

Dr. Jackson is certified as an Assistive Technology Professional through the Rehabilitation Engineering and Assistive Technology Society of North America. She is certified as an Ergonomic Assessment Specialist Level III through the Atlanta Back School, and she is certified in LSVT BIG. In 2019, Dr. Jackson was conferred as a Credential Leader in Academia upon successful completion of the American Occupational Therapy Association’s Academic Leadership Institute.   

Dr. Jackson serves within the Clinician Task Force (CTF), a non-profit organization comprised of a group of clinicians who advocate for individuals who require seating and wheeled mobility products and services while educating key stakeholders. Through the CTF, she contributes as an author and reviewer for DIRECTIONS, a national publication for wheelchair and seating professionals. She also serves as a Board Member for a local organization that serves individuals with hearing and visual impairments.   

For leisure, Leslie enjoys cooking, outdoor activities, spending time with her family, and reading autobiographies. She feels blessed to be part of IWU’s Faculty Team and to work alongside amazing OTD students.
