Biography

Leslie Jackson joined Indiana Wesleyan University as a full-time faculty member in July 2016. Prior to her full-time appointment, she taught as an adjunct faculty member for IWU’s occupational therapy program. Leslie is a native to the area and graduated from a local high school. After attending Purdue University, Leslie earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Occupational Therapy in 1999 from Creighton University in Omaha, Nebraska. As an occupational therapist, her clinical experience includes treating children and adults with musculoskeletal and neurological conditions in acute rehabilitation, inpatient, home health, skilled nursing facilities, school systems, and outpatient settings. She continues to practice at a local outpatient clinic, where she specializes in splinting, wheelchair and seating evaluations, and hand therapy. In 2008, Leslie received a specialized credential as an Assistive Technology Professional from the Rehabilitation Engineering and Assistive Technology Society of North America. She also earned an Ergonomic Assessment Specialist Level III Certification in 2013 through the Atlanta Back School. In 2015, Leslie earned her post-professional clinical doctorate in occupational therapy from Creighton University. During her doctoral program, she specialized in academic processes as part of her doctoral experiential component. In addition to teaching, she has served through the American Occupational Therapy Association in various capacities and presented for the association’s national conferences.

Interests

Leslie’s professional interests hand therapy, seating and wheelchair mobility, assistive technology, and policies in health care systems. For leisure, Leslie enjoys cooking, outdoor activities, and spending time with her husband and their two sons.
