Herb Vincent Peterson joins Indiana Wesleyan University as an Associate Professor in the Graphic Design major, and also as coordinator of the Graphic Design program within the Division of Art + Design. Prior to coming to IWU, Herb held faculty positions at Herron School of Art and Design, Ohio Dominican University and The Ohio State University. He holds a bachelor's degree in fine arts from Herron School of Art and Design where he studied photography and visual communication design and a master's degree in fine arts, emphasizing in interdisciplinary research, focusing on visual design and art education from The Ohio State University. A multidisciplinary designer and artist, Peterson has worked as Creative Director with companies large and small, museums and artists, educational institutions and not-for-profits. Peterson's work has been featured in numerous national and international magazines, books and exhibitions including venues such as: The Wexner Center for the Arts; The Indianapolis Museum of Art; Elizabeth Gallery in London; Art-Basel, Miami; Sean Christopher Gallery, Ohio; Agora, New York; Kuhn Fine Arts Center; and Jackson Contemporary Art.


Herb Peterson's teaching interests span a wide gamut from conceptual art practices to design processes and methods, visual communication design and typography, semiotics and visual rhetoric, co-design and community-based design/design for social impact. Herb is passionate about Christ-centered design and helping students tap into a life calling that is at the core of creating a world-changing impact.


Herb Peterson's primary research interests are in the field of design thinking for community based design initiatives, STEM education through design methods for K-12 educators, contemporary design education; specifically how students are shaping the future of design, and an extensive art studio practice that makes work centered on place and home, life and death, and divergence within conversations.
