 Curriculum Vitae

Dr. Che had worked in the industry (mostly automotive) for over twelve years before beginning his fulltime teaching career in Christian higher education. He first taught at Geneva College in Pennsylvania for seven years, then at Anderson University in Indiana for one year, and at Mount Vernon Nazarene University in Ohio for three years where he led the ABET accreditation activities. He also helped launch Bryan College’s new engineering program from 2018-2020. His teaching and research interests include CAD/CAM/CAE, GD&T, metrology, robotics, automotive engineering, manufacturing and quality engineering, mechanical design, and engineering education. He is currently a member of ASEE (American Society of Engineering Education) and ASME (American Society of Mechanical Engineers). He also serves as the curator for integration of faith and engineering literature for the Christian Engineering Society (CES).

Dr. Che has a BSE degree in Precision Mechanical Engineering from the Harbin Institute of Technology, Harbin, China. He obtained a M.S. from the Ohio State University and a Ph.D. from the University of Michigan, all in mechanical engineering. He worked as a post-doc and a staff researcher at University of Michigan for two years before joining the Global R&D Center of General Motors Corporation in Warren, Michigan. He was involved in interior design, manufacturing engineering, and vehicle dynamics simulation of GM’s heavy-duty trucks and SUVs.

Dr. Che had taught courses in mechanical, electrical and general engineering for 14 years. He is passionate about partnering with industry and local community and promoting service-learning. Many of his class and senior design projects were sponsored by the local industry and non-profit organizations. Examples include design and rapid prototyping of a new animal tagging device for medical research, SAE Baja competitions, additive manufacturing and optical scanning techniques and their application to mechanical design, hard-band spring design for Marcellus Shale drilling operations using ANSYS, therapeutic pool cover mechanism design, noise reduction of a gym, etc.

Dr. Che has been married to his wife Sarah for over thirty years. The Lord blessed them with five children and they are all homeschooled. He currently attends the College Wesleyan Church. In his spare time, he enjoys playing the ancient game of Go with virtual players online powered by artificial intelligence engines. He is also an avid fan of college football, with mixed emotions when Ohio State plays Michigan.

And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose. Rom 8:28 KJV
