 Curriculum Vitae

Dr. Dan Jones joined the faculty at Indiana Wesleyan University in 2002. He earned degrees and worked at several positions to prepare for his current undergraduate teaching, advising, and research duties. He graduated from Purdue University with a B.S. in Biochemistry and from Indiana University School of Dentistry with a D.D.S. After practicing general dentistry for four years, he pursued a doctorate fellowship in Biomedical Science (Biochemistry and Molecular Biology emphasis) at Wright State University. On completion of his Ph.D., he moved his family to Indianapolis where he worked five years as a post-doctoral research scientist (Eli Lilly & Company Cardiovascular Drug Discovery Unit for three years and then the Indiana University School of Medicine Department of Anatomy & Cell Biology for two years). During that time he supplemented his research work with instructing Pre-Nursing Physiology at Indiana University-Purdue University at Indianapolis and First-Year Problem-Based Learning at the Indiana University School of Dentistry. At Indiana Wesleyan, he actively engages his research students with projects that focus on the biochemical, cellular, and molecular biology aspects of bone and joints as they relate to osteoporosis, arthritis, and dental osteonecrosis.

General Research Interests:

Biochemistry, cell and molecular biology of the bone and joints as it relates to osteoporosis, arthritis, and dental osteonecrosis

Research Lab Projects:

1.) Analysis of reveromycin A-induced death effects in cells of the bone-joint microenvironment

2.) Testing of agents to inhibit bisphosphonate-induced osteonecrosis of the jaw

3.) Investigation of the epigenetic regulation of the MMP-13 and cathepsin K genes in equine chondrocytes

Funding:

Grants from Indiana Academy of Science, Lilly Faculty Scholarship Fund, Hodson Summer Research Institute

Teaching:

Majors’ Courses: Genetics (BIO412), Cell Biology (BIO351), Preparing the Christian Health Professional (PMD110), Independent Study Pre-Dental Science (BIO475), Research in Biology (BIO495), Nutrition (BIO396)

Non-Majors’ Courses: Anatomy & Physiology I (BIO111), Anatomy & Physiology II (BIO112), Human Biology (BIO102)
