Eta Chi Chapter of Sigma Theta Tau International

Purpose

The Eta Chi chapter of Sigma Theta Tau, the Honor Society of Nursing, provides leadership and scholarship in practice, education and research to enhance the health of people worldwide. Eta Chi is a part of an international community of 260,000 nurses in more than 70 countries dedicated to scholarly activities, excellence in clinical practice, and leadership at all levels of nursing practice. A goal of Sigma Theta Tau is improved health care for all clients. The international headquarters, which includes the Virginia Henderson International Library, is located in Indianapolis, Indiana.

Membership Requirements

There are three classifications of membership:

  • Undergraduate Student - Junior or senior students enrolled in baccalaureate programs at accredited institutions of higher education who have completed at least one-half of the nursing curriculum, rank in the upper 35 percent of their graduating class, and have achieved academic excellence (at schools where a 4.0 grade point average system is used, this equates to at least a 3.0).
  • Graduate Student - Master's and doctoral students enrolled in graduate programs at accredited institutions of higher education who have completed at least one-fourth of the nursing curriculum and have achieved academic excellence (at schools where a 4.0 grade point average system is used, this equates to at least a 3.5).
  • Nurse Leader - Registered nurses, legally recognized to practice in their respective countries, who hold at least a baccalaureate degree in nursing or other field and have demonstrated achievement in nursing.

National Student Nurses' Association (SNA)

Purpose

National Student Nurses' Association members unite together with Christ to serve the IWU campus and community. With an attitude of servanthood, SNA promotes the support of fellow students and faculty members, enhances unity and ensures future success as an organization by mentoring new members and building healthy relationships throughout the group, and promotes professionalism. SNA's work reaches beyond the perimeters of the campus and into the streets of the local neighborhoods through community outreach efforts.

Membership Requirements

Membership is open to all pre-nursing and nursing majors.
