APA Writing Style Guides

The majority of degree programs in IWU's College of Adult & Graduate Studies use the American Psychological Association's (APA) style guide for formatting research papers and citing referenced works.

The following resources give recommendations on APA format. Note that external sites are not managed by IWU and accuracy of the information is not guaranteed.

APA Style Templates Available for Purchase
(Note:  These can assist with writing in APA format, but all software is subject to error; be sure to check your output against official APA rules.)

  • APA-Style Helper - Downloadable help system for creating APA citations
  • Reference Point Software - templates for common word processing programs
  • Slate Citation Machine - free from the Landmark Project; assists with citation creation. (Tip: check for correct format, i.e. capitalization of initial word of a title but no capitalization of subsequent words).
