The InfoTrac/Gale databases were purchased by Cengage Learning, which has determined to unify its product lines under the Gale name. OCLS continues to provide the former Infotrac databases, but these databases are no longer being branded as Infotrac products.

11/2/07 New and Enhanced Databases
OCLS is happy to announce significant improvements in the databases now available
to IWU students:
For more information about these new tools, phone your OCLS librarian at 800-521-1848.
Save Time with the New OCLS Toolbar!
The new OCLS Toolbar can
save you lots of time:
- Take shortcuts directly to article databases, instead of drilling down through
many levels
- Instantly search for books and other items at the main IWU library and other
libraries
- Identify quality websites selected by OCLS librarians
- Access request forms with a single mouse click
- Get APA style format examples and guidance
- Toolbar is always there -- no need to go searching for what you want
Bottom Line: The toolbar combines the convenience of Google with the scholarly
resources required for academic success. (3/29/07)
New Database Added: Project Muse
Project Muse is one of the newest IWU databases available. It is a nice complement
to JSTOR (an archival database
with no articles less than five years old) because it contains recent years of
many of the same journal titles. There are over 325 unique titles of peer reviewed,
high quality journals available. They represent many disciplines as well as some
that are interdisciplinary. They link from the General Resources page of the Electronic
Resources by Subject web page. (3/19/07)
Welcome New Staff Member: Melissa Jo Smith
Melissa Jo Smith is our newest employee in Off Campus Library Services in Marion.
She is one of three team members who shares many core responsibilities such as
fielding phone and email requests, retrieving and delivering journal articles,
and distributing videos to faculty. Melissa Jo recently graduated from Indiana
Wesleyan University's main campus with a bachelors in intercultural studies. Originally
from Michigan, she has spent extended time in Africa working in a mission setting.
We are happy to welcome Melissa to our OCLS team! (10/30/06)
Library upgrades to Academic Onefile
Infotrac Onefile has been upgraded to Academic
Onefile, an enhanced source for locating journals and newspapers.
Academic Onefile provides IWU students and faculty with electronic access to New
York Times articles for the past decade, and offers a larger list of journal titles
than Infotrac Onefile. It is designed for the academic liberal arts research needs.
Infotrac searching has been upgraded to allow a student to search any or all
of the ten databases in the Infotrac family with one search. This feature makes
it quicker for students and faculty to conduct research, since search terms only
need to be entered once. (8/24/2006)
WorldCat
WorldCat has been known by librarians and libraries as one of the most comprehensive,
single databases of any materials cataloged. Librarians know it as the database
for cataloging newly received materials. Now it has become available as a searchable
database that does not require any subscriptions, logins or library only access.
It is available from our library
catalog search page, or you can directly connect to it at http://worldcat.org/.
One nice feature is the ability to find out where the item you have identified
is available in libraries in your geographical area simply by adding a zip code
to the search. (8/24/2006)
OCLS Expands Service Hours
It has been about a year since expanding our hours. I think that the OCLS staff
will agree that it has been a welcome change for service to students.
8 a.m. - 8 p.m. Monday - Thursday
8 a.m. - 5 p.m. Friday
9:30 a.m. - 2 p.m. Saturday
Closed all Sundays, holidays and weekends associated with a holiday. (8/24/2006)
New Access to Full Text Journal Titles
A year ago, IWU Library added the A
to Z journal title search engine from EBSCO.
We believe that this has really met a need with students as the document delivery
statistics have decreased fairly dramatically over the past year. This, however,
has not impacted request for services as this statistic has actually increased.
Students like direct access to full text articles! (8/24/2006).
Reference Collections Available in Dayton & Lexington
Small ready reference collections are now available at the Dayton (OH) and
Lexington (KY) Education Centers. (8/24/2006)
Library adds ReferenceUSA
ReferenceUSA is a demographic database that contains two major sections: Business
and Residential.
The Businesses database, which is likely most useful to IWU students, lists information
on over 13 million U.S. businesses. You can search by specific business
and get some general descriptive information or you can search by various criteria
such as state, MBA area, SIC or NAICS codes, number of employees, industry group,
etc. ReferenceUSA is updated regularly and each business is contacted annually
in order to verify information.
The second part is the Residential database, which provides individuals' names
and basic demographic information from the publically available census information.
It is available both on-campus and remotely.
Visit our Databases
page to try it out! (1/19/06)
INCat
INCat is an exciting joint database of over 400 public, special and academic libraries
located throughout the state of Indiana.
After locating a book, video or other item in the database, with a single mouse
click you can identify which Indiana libraries have the item.
It is available from our library
catalogs page. (1/19/06)
More Reference Books Now Online!
More virtual reference books have been added to the existing collection in the
Gale Virtual Reference Library. Some of the new titles are in the areas of health,
criminal justice, and psychology.
