IWU to Offer New Counseling Programs

Indiana Wesleyan University is offering three new counseling degree or certificate options.

The Bachelor of Science with a major in Addictions Counseling online degree program is designed for people who already have completed a minimum of 60 transferrable credit hours of college coursework. Students will receive an
in-depth education from a Christian perspective with a focus on understanding and/or serving addicted persons and their families. Most coursework is completed online, with practicums offered at mutually-agreed-upon sites. The first class is scheduled to begin October 22, and the program can be completed in 22 months.

The Master of Arts with a major in Counseling and specialization in Student Development Counseling and Administration is a 36 credit-hour program that prepares students to use a student-centered approach in applying counseling skills and techniques in the field of student development. Graduates will be qualified to serve in higher education in areas such as residence life, student activities, career counseling, multicultural affairs, admissions, academic advising, financial aid and mentoring.

The Graduate Certificate in Addictions Counseling is offered to people who already have a bachelor degree or whose graduate degree in counseling does not meet addictions-related state licensure or national certification requirements. This program is also available to students enrolled in non-IWU graduate counseling programs or whose programs do not offer sufficient addictions counseling coursework. Other counseling offerings include the Master of Arts with specializations in Addictions Counseling, Clinical Mental Health Counseling, Community Counseling, Marriage and Family Therapy, and School Counseling; and Post-Master’s Degree Certificates.
