IWU Has Record Enrollment

A record 15,442 students are enrolled for fall semester classes at Indiana Wesleyan University's three colleges. It is the 21st consecutive year that IWU, now Indiana's largest private college, has reported record enrollment.

The 2008 numbers represent a 5 percent increase from last year's total enrollment of 14,756.

Enrollment in traditional classes on the Marion campus, which includes a record 894 freshmen, has increased 5 percent. There are 3,201 students enrolled for fall semester classes in Marion, compared to 3,050 students a year ago.

More students also are living on the Marion campus, 2,600 this year compared to 2,382 a year ago.

Over the past decade, the balance of students attending classes on IWU's Marion campus has shifted steadily from commuter to residential. In 1998, 60 percent of traditional students lived on campus compared to 81 percent this year.

Enrollment in IWU's adult education programs, which began in 1985, exceeds 11,000 students for the second consecutive year. Classes for adult students meet at various sites - including 14 regional campuses - in Indiana, Kentucky and Ohio.

About 4,100 adult students are enrolled in online classes.
