IWU: Great Place to Work
Indiana Wesleyan University has been named one of America’s “Great Colleges to Work For,” based on a first-ever survey conducted by The Chronicle of Higher Education.
Survey results were based on responses from more than 15,000 administrators, faculty members and staff members at 89 colleges.
“We are grateful not only for the recognition by The Chronicle of Higher Education, but for the candid survey responses by our employees,” said Neil Rush, IWU human resources director.
“The results help underscore the progress we are making at enhancing the work experience at IWU. But, perhaps more importantly, the results compel us to continually strive for improvement in employment initiatives,” Rush said.
The assessment process was administered by ModernThink LLC, a human resources consulting firm that has conducted many ‘Best Places to Work” surveys for various groups. The Chronicle and ModernThink worked with a panel of higher-education experts to design the questionnaires.
Colleges were divided into three groups, based on numbers of employees, and each group was evaluated in 17 categories. IWU, with almost 1,000 employees, was honored as a top medium-sized college in the following 13 categories:
- Professional/Career Development Program. Employees are given the opportunity to develop skills and understand requirements to advance in their careers.
- Compensation and Benefits. Pay is fair, and benefits meet the needs of employees.
- Facilities and Security. Appearance of the campus is pleasing and the institution takes steps to provide a secure environment.
- Work-Life Balance. Policies give employees the flexibility to manage their personal time.
- Confidence in Senior Leadership. Leaders have the knowledge, skills and expertise necessary for institutional success.
- Connection to Institution and Pride. Employees have a strong sense of loyalty to the institution.
