IWU Awards 1,500 Degrees

More than 1,500 students received diplomas during two graduation ceremonies August 9 in Luckey Arena at Indiana Wesleyan University. All but 29 of the August graduates earned their degrees through IWU's adult education programs.

A total of 837 students received associate's and bachelor's degrees, and 637 students received master's and doctoral degrees.

Dr. A. Charles Ware, president of Crossroads Bible College, Indianapolis, spoke at both graduations. Before coming to Crossroads in 1991, Ware was a pastor and church planter in Pennsylvania and Maryland. He also has written several books.

Cornerstone, which was founded in 1980 as Baptist Bible College of Indianapolis, has about 500 students. Bible colleges exist primarily to prepare students for Christian ministries.

Dr. Ware was presented a Presidential Citation by Dr. David Wright, IWU Provost and Chief Academic Officer. Dr. Wright presided at the graduations in the absence of IWU President Dr. Henry Smith, who was attending his son's graduation at Auburn University.

In addition to the August 9 ceremonies, IWU also has multiple graduations in April and in December.

IWU expects about 3,100 traditional students to enroll for fall semester classes, which begin September 2 on the Marion campus. About 12,000 students are pursuing degrees in adult education programs at 14 regional campuses in Indiana, Kentucky and Ohio and online.

IWU began offering adult education programs in 1985. Since then, more than 35,000 adult learners have received degrees.
