Duane Kilty, Taylor University Chancellor, To Join Indiana Wesleyan as Chief Financial Officer
Dr. Duane Kilty, Chancellor of Taylor University Fort Wayne since 2006, will become Indiana Wesleyan University’s Vice President for Business Affairs and Chief Financial Officer in January.
Kilty has more than 20 years of administrative experience in fiscal management, strategic planning and personnel management in Christian higher education. In addition to his experience at Taylor, Kilty also has been an administrator at Huntington University and at Asbury Theological Seminary in Kentucky.
"Over the years, God has provided a wide variety of experiences in a variety of settings that have prepared me to effectively serve IWU at this point in history," Kilty said. "My wife Joni and I feel that God has called us to this role, and we are pleased to be joining the IWU family."
Kilty will succeed Elvin Weinmann, who has been IWU’s Chief Financial Officer since 1999. Weinmann will remain with IWU as an Assistant Vice President of Finance.
Kilty was hired after a nationwide search that took almost a year and attracted 33 candidates. Five candidates were brought to campus for interviews.
"Dr. Kilty is exceptionally experienced and is a perfect mission fit to a team of outstanding senior leaders at IWU," said Dr. Henry Smith, IWU President. Kilty, who is a Certified Public Accountant, has a doctorate in business administration plus a Master of Business Administration.
"To have a CFO with Dr. Kilty’s academic preparation is outstanding," Smith said. "With the planned closing of Taylor’s Fort Wayne campus, Dr. Kilty’s move south to Marion was an excellent match of his availability with IWU’s need."
Taylor announced plans in October to close its Fort Wayne campus at the end of the current academic year in May of 2009.
"Dr. Kilty has done superb work for Taylor University in his role as Taylor University Fort Wayne Chancellor," said Dr. Eugene Habecker, Taylor President. "We wish him well in his new assignment with IWU."
Kilty and his wife, Joni, have been married for 29 years and have three grown children. The family plans to relocate to the Marion area.
Elvin Weinmann, who has served in IWU’s Business Affairs office for 15 years, asked more than a year ago to step down as vice president but agreed to stay in the job until a successor was found.
"When Elvin and I talked more than a year ago, he told me that he loved IWU and wanted to remain a part of the University family," Smith said. "His faithfulness and loyalty not just to IWU, but to The Wesleyan Church, are exemplary."
IWU’s Business Affairs Office manages a $175 million annual budget and also has oversight of several University auxiliaries, including the bookstore and food service. The CFO also is responsible for the Human Resources department – a major responsibility with IWU’s 1,000-employee workforce.
Indiana Wesleyan University is an evangelical Christian comprehensive university of The Wesleyan Church. The University was founded in 1920 and is committed to liberal arts and professional education.
More than 3,200 students are enrolled in traditional programs on the University’s main campus in Marion. Another 12,000 adult learners attend classes at more than 100 sites – including regional campuses – in Indiana, Kentucky and Ohio.
