1,840 IWU Students Get Diplomas
Brian Bosma, Minority Leader of the Indiana House of Representatives, told 1,840 Indiana Wesleyan University graduates on Saturday that commencement is just the beginning of their journey.
"It is a journey of success, a journey of service, a journey of performing the good work that God has placed for you," said Bosma, who spoke at three graduation ceremonies. The winter graduating class was the largest in IWU’s 88-year history.
Most of the December graduates received their degrees through IWU’s various adult education programs. Most graduates of traditional programs on the Marion campus get their degrees in April.
Saturday’s graduates brought to 5,010 the number of students who received IWU degrees in 2008.
Bosma first was elected in 1986 to represent House District 88, which today includes parts of Marion and Hamilton counties. He was elected Speaker of the House in 2004 when Republicans became the majority party.
Bosma has degrees from the Purdue University School of Engineering and the Indiana University School of Law. He is a partner in an Indianapolis law firm.
