Site preparation work began by July 1 for Indiana Wesleyan University's new Greenwood Education Center. The center, which is scheduled to open in February 2007, will offer classes for working adults.

The $3.2 million, two-story brick building will be located on Windhorst Way in the South Park Business Center, at Exit 99 and Interstate 65. Turner Construction, Indianapolis, is the general contractor for the project.

The Greenwood facility will be the first of IWU's regional campuses to feature a 1,500-square-foot nursing laboratory.

IWU currently has regional campuses on the north and west sides of Indianapolis and offers several classes in leased facilities in the Greenwood area. The new campus will offer classes closer to home for hundreds of students who live south of Indianapolis.

More than 200 students from Johnson County currently are enrolled in IWU's adult education programs.

The Greenwood campus will offer graduate and undergraduate degrees in business, accounting, marketing, computer information systems, management, education and nursing.

IWU is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission and is a member of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools. In addition: The nursing program is accredited by the Commission for Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE). The education program is accredited by the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE).

Classes are taught by full-time faculty - credentialed in their disciplines - and part-time practitioners - working professionals from the Greater Indianapolis area.

IWU's College of Adult and Professional Studies began offering classes in 1985. More than 27,000 adult learners have earned degrees through the college, and 9,500 students currently are enrolled in classes - about 2,500 of them in online programs.

In addition to Greenwood and Indianapolis, other IWU campuses in Indiana are located in Fort Wayne, Columbus, Kokomo and Shelbyville. A campus in Merrillville is scheduled to open Nov. 1.

IWU also has two education centers in Kentucky: in Louisville and Lexington; and three education centers in Ohio: in Cleveland, Cincinnati and Dayton. Additional Ohio campuses are planned in Columbus and Toledo.
