Indiana Wesleyan University has a record number of students for the 18th consecutive year. Three new 80-bed residence halls opened earlier this month to accommodate more students.

A record 12,632 students are enrolled for fall semester classes in IWU's three colleges. That is an increase of about 11 percent from last year's enrollment of 11,412. More students also are living on campus, 2,202 this year compared to 2,055 a year ago.

In recent years, the balance of traditional students attending classes on IWU's Marion campus has shifted from commuter to residential. In 1995, about 53 percent of students lived on campus compared to 78 percent this year.

Enrollment on the Marion campus for the 2005-06 academic year stands at 2,830 students - an increase of 6 percent from a year ago. That includes a record 736 freshmen and 122 transfer students, compared to 707 freshmen and 130 transfer students in 2004.

Here is a two-year comparison of fall semester enrollment for IWU's three colleges:
  2004 2005 Change
College of Arts & Sciences 2,653 2,830 + 6 percent
College of Adult & Professional Studies 8,385 9,291 +11 percent
College of Graduate Studies 374 511 +37 percent
TOTALS 11,412 12,632 +11 percent

Adult and Professional Studies students attend classes at sites in about 70 Indiana cities, including IWU education centers in Fort Wayne, Indianapolis, Kokomo, Columbus and Shelbyville. IWU also has a campus in Louisville, Ky., and three Ohio campuses in Cleveland, Cincinnati and Dayton.

IWU recently acquired property to open campuses in Merrillville, Ind., and Lexington, Ky.
