IWU Chorale‘Handel’s Messiah’ to Conclude Sounds of Christmas at IWU

Handel’s Messiah, which will be presented by the Indiana Wesleyan University Chorale and Orchestra on December 12, will conclude a series of Christmas programs on IWU’s Marion campus.

The December 12 performance, which will feature IWU alumni and professors, will be at 7:30 p.m. at Phillippe Performing Arts Center Auditorium. Dr. Todd Guy directs the IWU Chorale, and Jason Thompson directs the Orchestra.

There also will be a performance at 7:30 p.m., December 11, at First United Methodist Church, Seventh and Adams streets, Marion. Tickets for both performances are $5 and may be ordered by calling the IWU Box Office, 677-2610.

Other Christmas concerts, sponsored by the IWU Music Division, include:

  • The Wind Ensemble, directed by Michael Flanagin, at 7:30 p.m., December 3, in the Auditorium. There is no admission charge.
  • Merry Menotti, two one-act operas by Gian-Carlo Menotti, presented by the IWU Opera Workshop, at 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m., December 5, in Baker Recital Hall. The operas are Chip and His Dog and Amahl and the Night Visitor, which are directed by Dr. Lisa Dawson and Dr. Tammie Huntington. Tickets are  $5 and may be purchased at the IWU Box Office.
  • Heart of Indiana Children’s Choir, directed by Dr. Chris Lessly, at 7:30 p.m., December 8, in the Auditorium. Tickets, which may be purchased at IWU Box Office, are $4 in advance for ages 6 to adult and $5 at the door; $2 for IWU students; free for children 5 and younger.
  • Jazz Ensemble, directed by Flanagin, at 7:30 p.m., December 10, in Baker Recital Hall. 

Baker Recital Hall is located in the Phillippe Performing Arts Center.

The Mississinewa Valley Band will present its annual Christmas concert at 7:30 p.m., December 15, at the Auditorium. There is no admission charge.
