Indiana Wesleyan Professor to Premiere Symphony
An original symphony by Dr. Todd Syswerda, a music professor at Indiana Wesleyan University, will premiere at 7:30 p.m., Nov. 22, at Phillippe Performing Arts Center on the IWU campus. University Singers and the IWU Orchestra, supplemented by 25 professional musicians, will perform the symphony. Tickets are $5 and may be purchased at the Phillippe Center box office or by calling 765-677-2610. Syswerda spent three years writing Symphony No. 1 for his doctorate, which he received in 2002 from the University of Northern Colorado. He has taught at IWU since 2000 and previously lived in Marion when his father, Roger Syswerda, was principal of Lakeview Christian School. The 35-minute symphony explores what Syswerda sees as the three foundational attributes of God - power, holiness and love. The symphony has four movements, one each devoted to an attribute of God with the final movement bringing them all together. |
