IWU Vice President Named to Federal Board

Dr. Mark A. Smith, Vice President of Adult and Graduate Studies at Indiana Wesleyan University

Dr. Mark A. Smith, Vice President of Adult and Graduate Studies at Indiana Wesleyan University, has been named to the National Board of the Fund for the Improvement of Post-Secondary Education. U.S. Secretary of Education Rod Paige nominated Smith for the 15-member board.

The board advises the Secretary of Education and the Congress on the priorities for the improvement of post-secondary education and also sets guidelines for grant competitions. Each year, millions of dollars in federal grants are awarded to universities to improve education.

Smith's appointment to the federal board is for three years. The board does not have regular meetings but meets at the call of the education secretary.

Smith joined IWU in 1996 and was named vice president of the adult education division two years ago. He was elected to a four-year term on the Marion City Council in the Nov. 4 election.

Smith and his wife Debbie have one son.
