Two IWU Athletes Win Colescott Scholarships

Two Indiana Wesleyan University athletes from Grant County received $500 scholarships Sept. 9 during a luncheon at the 14th annual Jack Colescott Athletic Scholarship Golf Tournament at Arbor Trace Golf Club.

This year's recipients of the Colescott scholarships were:

  • Amie Owsley, an IWU senior who graduated from Lakeview Christian School. Owsley, who plays basketball at IWU, is the all-time county scoring leader in girls' basketball. Owsley, the daughter of Gary and Margaret Owsley of Sweetser, is majoring in nursing
  • Ian Swyers, an IWU junior who graduated from Marion High School. Swyers was on the track and basketball teams in high school and participates in track at IWU. Swyers, the son of Gary and Missy Swyers of Marion, is majoring in Christian ministries and business.

More than 250 golfers participated in Wednesday's tourney, which has raised more than $500,000 for scholarships since it was established in 1990. The Colescott scholarships are given annually to two athletes from Grant County high schools who go on to participate in athletics at IWU.

The tourney is named in honor of Jack Colescott, the long-time basketball coach and athletic director at Marion High School. Colescott, who serves as tourney chairman, is retired from teaching but is an assistant coach of the Mississinewa High School boys' basketball team.
