The world is our parish is one of Wesley’s best known sayings. After he was barredfrom preaching inside church walls in some places, he took to his Father’s world outdoors. Today, his saying helps us remember that God’s church extends to the ends of the earth, and the seminary building embodies this theme in several ways. From the styles of the building’s exterior to the furnishings inside, the building is meant to embody the diversity of the world. It is also an energy efficient building, which embodies our desire to be good stewards of God’s earth.

With a community like IWU, students are never without someone to pray with. But everyone needs time with God one-on-one, to pause from a hectic schedule to ask for God’s blessings, mercy and forgiveness. The Williams Prayer Chapel came from the vision of IWU professors Wilbur and Ardelia Williams, who wanted a place for students to experience solitude with the Lord. Blending design with biblical allusions, the light shining through the stained glass windows paints the perfect scene for prayer. Guests are welcome and encouraged to record their prayers in the journal near the entrance of the Chapel.
