Post-Professional Masters of Science in Athletic Training

This professional degree is designed for students who have completed an undergraduate degree in athletic training accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Athletic Training Education (CAATE) standards.


This certification program is designed to be completed in 11 months. It is primarily delivered online, but with clinical placements in a single two-week, on-campus intensive instruction session in gross anatomy and emergency medical procedures. 

As a part of our School of Health Sciences, this professional degree offers both a laboratory and clinical experience that can improve your marketability as a health care professional and allow you to move beyond an entry-level position.



For students of this Master’s program who are interested in athletic training graduate programs, the mission of the Post-Professional Master of Science in Athletic Training is to provide high-quality, evidence-based educational opportunities for students to achieve intellectual, professional and personal growth in the field of athletic training to service the health care needs of Indiana and beyond.

Upon degree completion, the mission of IWU’s Post-Professional Master of Science in Athletic Training is to provide:

  1. A Christ-centered learning culture that promotes and assists in developing professional behaviors of athletic trainers that incorporate the values and attitudes of excellence, caring, honesty and respect that are consistent with the Code of Ethics by the National Athletic Trainers’ Association and Standards of Professional Practice from the Board of Certification Inc.
  2. A student-centered curriculum that critically studies the scope and practice of athletic training and builds upon the students' post-professional athletic training foundational knowledge, increases their understanding of issues related to athletic health care through an evidence-based curriculum, and prepares them to better engage and serve a diverse patient population.
  3. Didactic, laboratory and online experiences that provide exposure to a broad range of traditional and emerging health care and human service delivery models.
