Elementary Education

If you've been searching for an elementary education program in Indiana, the accredited programs at Indiana Wesleyan University are designed to prepare successful, highly qualified teachers for preschool, kindergarten and middle school classrooms in public and private schools. The program is also designed to meet Indiana early childhood and middle childhood content and developmental standards, and the standards developed by the Association for Childhood Education International.

As a student in the School of Teacher Education, you will acquire the knowledge, skills and dispositions necessary to be a successful educator and make a difference in the lives of students. Classroom instruction and practice teaching placements allow you to combine theory and practice, while exploring the relationship between teaching and biblical principles.

As you progress through the ElEd program, whether you are earning an Associate of Science degree, Bachelor's or Master's in education, you will have numerous opportunities for real-life field experiences, beginning in the freshman year and culminating in the student teaching experience. University faculty will mentor and challenge you in the refinement of your pedagogical skills and professionalism. Each stage of the program allows for assessment and reflection as you develop your God-given gift of teaching.

Whether right out of grad school or after some years in the profession, IWU professors moved to the head of the class. Was it a passion for sharing the field of their dreams? Was it a divine prompting to make students their business? Or were they looking for a place where they could teach their profession and still share a profession of faith? No doubt it was all of the above. We invite you to come to campus and ask students what they think.
