Phillippe Performing Arts Center
The Phillippe Performing Arts Center
(PPAC) opened over the summer of 1996. It is named in honor
of Dr. and Mrs. Thomas E. Phillippe Sr., both IWU alumni and
long-time supporters of the university.
As visitors approach the main entrance of the PPAC they begin
to see why IWU was given Indiana Concrete and Masonry Association’s
highest award for design in 1998.

Once inside the 45 foot-tall foyer, guests will be struck with
the beautiful wood surfaced second-floor balcony.
A few steps ahead is the 150’ circumference circular
lobby. At its center, eight columns hold up a 15 foot-diameter
domed rotunda. As guests visit inside this area they will experience
the unique acoustical sound that only domed rotundas provide.
While in the PPAC, visitors are encouraged to enter the main
auditorium. This 55-foot pit floor to catwalk auditorium
holds 1,155 guests, a large thrust stage and 1,071 sparking
lights that twinkle in the ceiling.
The PPAC’s auditorium is in constant use. In the morning
two chapel services are held. In the afternoon it is used for
theatrical and music groups rehearsals. During the evening the
auditorium hosts theatrical productions, (both IWU and touring
companies), classical and modern concerts, and community-wide
events. For example, the Marion Philharmonic Orchestra performs
several concerts in the auditorium each season, and The Heart
of Indiana Children’s Choir performs its annual show in
this auditorium. |
