Art Galleries
IWU’s two art galleries are located
in the Beard
Art Center.
Williams Gallery
The Williams Gallery is named after Mrs. Ardelia Williams, retired
Associate Professor of Art.
 |
 |
Mrs. Williams graduated from
IWU (thenMarion College) in 1951 with a B.S. in Music
and Art. She became an art teacher at IWU in 1967 and
retired 35 years later in 2002. Her expertise in stained
glass design can be viewed
in every window of the Williams
Prayer Chapel and the South
and West
Seminar Rooms in the Noggle
Christian Ministry Center. Mrs. Williams designed
and handcrafted each window on these exterior walls. |

Anniversary, 2001 |
The Williams Gallery hosts the Bonta and Howard art collections.
The IWU community is very fortunate to have these wonderful
paintings and photographic works to enjoy. Such additions to
IWU’s permanent collection offer a rich resource of learning
and an invaluable way of enriching the Marion community. We
are truly grateful to the Bontas and the Howards for their generosity.
The works in the Williams Gallery rotate periodically during
the academic year to accommodate the needs of the Division of
Art and community events.
East Gallery
The East Gallery is frequently used to
exhibit visiting artists, traveling shows and special featured
exhibitions in all media.
Both galleries are used in April to spotlight works from our
senior art majors. In their exhibits students are given the
opportunity to showcase their best works. Their exhibits is
a critical component of the faculty’s final assessment
of the artistic abilities of each graduating art major.
In May IWU concludes the public school’s academic year
by hosting the Annual All-Student Juried Exhibition and the
works of the Marion Public School Student Exhibition. Aspiring
artists and their family members flock to the Beard Art Center
during this week to view hundreds of works of art by K–12
students.

of Art’s mailing list, please contact the Division at
